HOW TO GET TO MOUNT AUSANGATE

Getting to Ausangate has two routes, with one long and another short route.

  • The long route includes a bus ride from Cusco to Chilca that takes you from the city of Cusco all the way to Chilca. Arriving at Chilca town, you can enjoy medicinal waters after 4-5 hours of walk towards Pacchanta town. Although the route is the longest, you can enjoy economical rides in addition to beautiful scenery and medicinal water.
  • Going to Ausangate also has another shorter route which is comprised of traveling by bus to Tinki town from Cusco. The average time of traveling is approximately 3 hours. Reaching the town, you can take the bus to Pacchanta town. It is an economical as well as a time-saving route.

WHEN TO GO AUSANGATE?

The finest time to visit the Ausangate Mountains of Peru starts in May and ends in September. This dry season in the Andes enables tourists to enjoy clearer days and sunnier weather in addition to the stunning scenery. 

The driest season is July to August. It is very famous among tourists. These dry seasons are famous for traveling to Ausangate along with Machu Picchu, Cusco, and Inca. Dry seasons are the best times for hiking.

In contrast to the dry season, the rainy season in the Ausangate begins in October and ends in April, with heavy rain months beginning in January and ending in March.

The rainy seasons are difficult for hiking. It is the best choice to have the Ausangate hiking in dry seasons with little chance of rainfall.
